thanks for ur help.Olive oil as ear drops?
warm the olive oil very slightly, pour in with a teaspoon - just a few drops, lay him on his side for ten mins on your lap and rub under his earlobe - it should be a very pleasant sensation for him if your relax and cuddle him. turn him over and do the other ear. tell him he won't be able to hear properly for a little bit - see if he can lay still and watch TV whilst you do it.Olive oil as ear drops?
How to insert olive oil drops into the ear canal

1. Insert the closed glass dropper bottle containing the oil into a cup of warm water for two minutes. Dry the container and insert one-drop of oil onto your hand to ensure that it is not too hot. If you feel the oil is too hot wait for it to cool prior to commencing. The correct temperature of the oil should be 37掳C. Alternatively, for the oil to reach body temperature (37掳C) place the bottle in a pocket of your clothing currently being worn for 20 to 30 minutes.

2. Holding the prepared dropper bottle lie on a bed with the affected ear towards the ceiling.

3. With one hand pull the top of your ear upwards and outwards to straighten the ear canal.

4. Placing the filled dropper part of the bottle of oil over the entrance to your ear canal and squeeze the dropper until one drop (or the amount specified by your nurse) is instilled. Maintain that position for five minutes. Wipe the excess drops that pool outside the ear when you sit up. Do not insert cotton wool into the entrance of the ear canal as this will absorb the drops.

5. If the drops are to be inserted into both ears, repeat steps two to four on the opposite side.

hope it helps.
Olive oil or similar (over the counter products) must be used 2 weeks prior to ear syringing as it softens the wax. Do not use cotton wool in the ear following the insertion of the oil as it will just soak it up! Simply put a few drops in one ear using a dropper- you can get these from the pharmacist for a couple of pounds (a teaspoon will not do the job), get your child to lay on their side for a few minutes the do the opposite ear. You could read him/her a book during the moments of waiting just so they do not get bored :-)

It is important that this is done daily as the doctor/nurse may not be able to syringe your child's ears if the wax remains hard.

Good luck x
Yes 2 drops is fine for a child. Just tilt their head and keep it tilted for a few minutes after you put it in. Use some cotton balls to hold over the ear with tape to hold it in place. The oil will drip out otherwise.

They like you to put oil in there for 2 weeks...silly if you ask me
the thinking these days is a couple of drops in each lug 2 x a day for a fortnight that should disperse the wax completely,

I was told to use cold olive oil as you cannot gauge the temperature properly and could cause further damage to your ear if to warm
I use baby oil, i just drop 3 drops in each ear. I have a lot wax build up so it helps a lot.

It kinda tickles/stings a little.

make sure you have a wash cloth with your child, especially if he'shes going to bed afterwards, the wax will drip out.
warm it up a bit, put the bottle in a bowl of hot water to do this, then just as you said, a couple of drops in each ear then put cotton wool in
It will soften the wax before syringing.
go to the chemist and buy there olive oil and small syringe to put it down, works a treat
My mum used to use warm olive oil. It just dissolves the wax away.
thats how you do it yes, warm it slightly if you can, works faster
