My hair has been shedding and flaking. i wash it once a week and do an olive oil conditioner also.what do i do

dont grease your scalp, that is like putting grease on your face it will clog your pores. use oil instead and use a deep conditioner for 15 minutes every 4 days. use head and sholders shampoo for flaking

okay u are not gonna get the answer ur looking for on here. especially with people answering that are not the same ethnicity as u. blk people do not have to wash their hair everyday! (something white people dont understand) but at least once or twice a week. go to a professional hair salon (a natural hair care salon) and ask them how to manage ur hair.





the answers from the blk people on here are correct also.....but to have best results i would consult the salon.
Try washing twice a week with a mild shampoo - like baby shampoo.


Use less grease and conditioner and gel.


Mix in a hydro cortisone creme to you hair grease.


Avoid pulling your tight with rubber bands or gel or tight braiding.


If you are using a hot comb or hot hair dryer--reduce the heat.


If you are using perms or straightening kits or hair colors--hold off for a while--they dry out scalp and hair.


Most important! start taking a multiple vitamin everyday.
Hair can be a good indication of your general health and well being. I would make sure you are also eating healthy to maintain nice hair, and overall well being.





Remember that hair starts growing inside your body, so any treatments you are applying to your scalp or hair directly may not be helping.





You wouldn't paint a rusty table, because the paint would never stick. So trying all these things with unhealthy hair will have similar results, NONE.
If you are black (just guessing from your avatar), you are probably drying your hair out by washing it every week. Every two weeks should suffice. Before you wash your hair you should scratch up the dandruff (if that's what it is) and wash with a dandruff shampoo. The olive oil conditioner should be okay, but you may want to look at cholesterol conditioner. Deep condition your hair at least once a month, in your case it may be better to do it every time you wash it (twice a month). Don't listen to those people who say you need to wash it more, like I said, if you are black you are probably washing out all of your natural oils and drying your hair out. You could always go to a salon and have them build you hair back up. But, pick a good one, not all hair salons know how to revitalize and keep hair healthy.

You could try switching shampoos or reducing the amount of heat you use, like instead of blowdrying AND flat ironing, you could wash at night, wrap it, let it air dry, and flat iron it in the morning. And ALWAYS use a heat protectant spray. Hope this helps!!!
You should wash your hair at least once every other day, that's disgusting that you only wash it once a week. If you wash it more often it won't shed and flake. And if you only wash it once a week your hair will start to get oily and greasy and it will porbably smell, too.

Make sure that you use conditioner, it keeps your hair exta-healthy. You should also get you hair cut every 4-6 weeks to keep it healthy. And, oh yeah, do NOT grease your scalp.
wash your hair every other day, use a good conditioner and shampoo. if you blowdry use cool or warm instead of hot.


Once a week or every 2 weeks do one of those hot treatments or even a cold one works too.

We all know how difficult black hair is to maintain. You can do a number of things.





Change the grease you use it makes a huge difference,


Change shampoo (you may need a dandruff control, my aunt needed too)


Instead of washing once a week, try twice a week. My hair should be washed every 4 days.


Also keep in mind that we can lose between 100 to 300 strands of hair per day. Just make sure it is entire strands, not breakage. Don't abruptly change routine in your hair, you could cause more damage. Don't scratch your scalp. Scratching leaves scratches, causes flaking because of scabbing and it also damages your hair.





*To all the white girls out there, if we wash our hair too often, our hair gets dry and brittle. That is why we have to add additonal moisture, like oil and grease.
