Which oil is best to massage babies...baby oil or olive oil?

Definantly olive. Make sure it's 'extra virgin' 100% pure olive oil, though. The less expensive olive oils - the ones that aren't labeled as extra virgin - are more processed and contain lesser quality fillers that don't have the high omega-3 content that pure olive oil has.

While baby oil isn't 'bad' to use, it doesn't provide any nutrition for the baby's skin, and is made of chemicall媒 refined mineral and paraffin oils, and loaded with perfumes and preservatives!

Stick with natural and highly nutrative olive oil! Also, if you are breastfeeding, try adding olive oil into your diet! It's loaded with Omega-3 fatty acids that are essential for your baby's brain development, and you will benefit from it, too, as it's packed with antioxidants that combat cell damaging free radicals.

Also, olive oil can feel a little 'stiff' when first pouring it out of the bottle for massaging, so you should rub it vigorously between your hands to warm the oil a bit, and to make it more spreadable.

I use it all the tine on my 3 month old baby, as well as myself, and I cook everything with it. too!

Edit: if you rub the olive oil completely into the skin it will not leave your baby, or your hands, feeling greasy!Which oil is best to massage babies...baby oil or olive oil?

Olive oil, better for sensitive skin, no perfume
baby oil
well...the olive oil would be free of perfume.
olive oil,no perfume or extras
Baby oil. I've used it on all my children.
10w-40
I don't use baby oil. The oil is mineral oil which can dry out skin. It gave my baby a rash.

I use Alpha Keri Oil which is designed for people with eczema and sensitive skin.
Baby oil isn't good; it's mineral oil which is NOT good for even adult skin. Yuck.

Olive oil (extra virgin) is so pure, natural and healthy. Go for that!!

People, just because something says ';baby'; on it, doesn't make it good for your baby!! Geez, read something.
Some posts here have a lot of good info...

Any type of vegetable oil is better than a man made product. Just look at the oil this way, if you can eat it then you can use it for baby massage.

As some people said you dont want all those chemical being absorbed by your baby`s skin. But all those goodies from natural oil will be great. It`s like most things, natural is better.
olive. but coconut or sesame oil would be best.

Your skin - or in this case your baby's skin- will absorb some of the oil.

Olive, coconut, almond (the oils used in massage) are absorbed by the skin and the amount that is absorbed THORUGH the skin adds beneficial nutrients. Baby oil is mineral oil, it's a PETROLEUM product- would you rather have your baby absorb, anti-oxidants found in the above which can be beneficial, or petroleum?

RN/ CMT worked with and teach parents to massage infants. Wouldn't put baby oil on my own baby - or anyone else's!-if you paid me, I can't believe they still sell the stuff!
Are you planning to sautee them?
